The Green House Planting Log

July 14, 2017 Jessica Due

When I started daydreaming about The Duem Ranch one of the first things that came to mind was building a green house. I started looking at different pictures of green houses and how to make one DIY style. I started a Pinterest board with ideas that I liked, even if what I liked was only one component of one picture and another thing about a different picture.  I used to cut out magazine pages to create collages long before Pinterest so I am down with it. I’m crafty.

I eagerly waited for Nick to finish the green house so that I could begin planting seeds. He was fantastic about asking me questions on what I wanted in a green house and looking at the pictures I mentioned above. He was always coming home with more materials that were needed to build it. The rodents, winds and temperatures reeked havoc on all our plants the first year we were here, so I was thrilled to have a protected area to start planting seeds this year. To have it as magical as it is, was beyond what I thought was possible.

Nick is still great about asking me questions about my greenhouse desires and observing me while I worked with my seeds and plants. He even brought a stool inside so that he could observe me while I worked and see what was needed for the area. As for me, each shelf or hanging rack that he builds or brings home has been a helpful and appreciated addition.

On top of having over a dozen shelves for seed trays and seedling transplants there is a long work bench, corner shelf’s, shelves that line the top of the walls, and hanging racks for my drying herbs and flowers. I have fallen in love with one of my greenhouse corner shelf in particular. It holds dry herbs that have been harvested from the greenhouse population, fallen feathers and skulls, pinecones, crystals and a variety of items that make me smile. I started making sun-catchers that I will eventually connect to wood that has been also found on the property, that hang in the windows.

I am so happy with the green house and having my hands in soil everyday. I enjoy early mornings singing to my seeds and seedlings and embracing my wildling nature. I am excited to share this adventure and process with you.

As requested here is a list of the seeds I planted this year. This list does not include any trees we have planted for The Mystical Realm, however that will be in another blog. Thanks for listening and if you have any questions or suggestions shoot me an email. Thanks!   ~~ Jess
